Exhibits – 2006 Weathering the WeatherPersonal photographs, newspaper articles, post cards and locally produced hurricane periodicals illustrate Portsmouth’s weather events. Visitors can view pictures from major hurricanes that impacted our area. Sunny days enjoying the beach at Cashman’s Amusement Park in Island Park are included in the exhibit. Snow scenes that stopped trolley cars, blanketed the roof of Cozy Corner’s Howard Johnson Restaurant and provided for lots of sledding fun are also part of our retrospective look at weather. We thank the students from the 2nd and 3rd grades at Elmhurst School who contributed research projects to enhance the display. R. A. Scotti opened the exhibit with an illustrated talk on the 1938 Hurricane that severely impacted Rhode Island’s coastal areas. A signing of her book, Sudden Sea, followed her presentation. |
