2009 Portsmouth Historical Society Exhibit - Farming in Portsmouth

The Old Town Hall was renewed as exhibit space focusing on Portsmouth Farms, Past and Present. We have special displays of images of Portsmouth farms from the Gentleman Farms like Glen Farm and Oakland Farm to the old Yankee farm families.

A special focus is farmer Frank Chase. Many of the farm tools in the Town House exhibit were used on Frank Chase's farm at the bottom of Quaker Hill. Frank was a farmer for 80 years. He was a local pioneer in raising turkeys, eggplant and late growing cauliflower. Frank's daughter, Mary Chase Hanks, donated the farm equipment in her father's name.
