Julia Ward Howe Room
On Oct. 17, 1910 Julia Ward Howe died at her beloved Portsmouth home, Oak Glen on Union Street in Portsmouth, she was born in New York City ninety one years earlier. A room dedicated to her is located on the first floor of the Society’s museum. It houses a collection of furnishings from her beloved summer home in Portsmouth as well as a display in tribute to her life. Julia Ward Howe championed many humanitarian & feminist causes:
