Ecological Landscape Design

Learn about ecological landscape design from Sanne Kure-Jensen.  Gardeners will learn about designing landscapes with habitat and food for wildlife. By using native and ornamental plants with low input needs, gardeners can reduce garden toxins, maintenance needs and costs.

In this workshop, Sanne Kure-Jensen will discuss Sarah Stein’s inspirational book “Noah's Garden: Restoring the Ecology of Our Own Backyards” and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Certified Backyard program.

Backyard Composting

Learn composting basics from Sanne Kure-Jensen, Portsmouth’s Recycling Coordinator. Reduce your household waste and create “Gardener’s Gold," a great source of garden fertility. Hear how composting works and discover worm composting (vermiculture).  Learn the benefits of using compost bins or piles and "hot" versus slow composting.

Compost bins will be available for purchase.

Daughters of Divorce Book Signing

Local author Terry Gaspard will discuss her new book Daughters of Divorce: Overcome the Legacy of Your Parents' Breakup and Enjoy a Happy, Long-Lasting Relationship. The author is a recognized divorce expert and licensed clinical social worker.  Her book offers a powerful look at the emotional impact of parental divorce upon women and provides concrete ways they can improve their relationships.

32nd Annual Tree Lighting

The Library will hold its 32nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting tonight at 6 PM. Cocoa and cookies will be served in the Library lobby starting at 5:30 PM. The tree lighting will take place when Santa Claus arrives on a fire truck at 6 PM. Santa will talk to each child and candy canes will be given to each one. This is a wonderful way to begin the holiday season. Bring a camera!

Calligraphy for the Holidays

Patricia Nannini will be instructing adults in "Calligraphy for the Holidays" on Thursday, December 10 from 6 to 8 PM.  Come and learn the basic fundamental skills of Calligraphy just in time for the Holidays. Learn spacing and lettering skills that can be applied to holiday cards, table settings, gift tags and more for your holiday season.  Attendees are asked to bring a pencil, eraser and a clear plastic ruler with them to the class.  Special calligraphy pens, practice paper and clipboards will be supplied.  

Teen Fiction Book Club

Science Saturday
