The Library will be closed Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. 

Our annual reading of the Declaration of Independence will be on the grounds of the Portsmouth Free Public Library at 9:00 a.m.
In case of rain, we will meet inside the library in the Mello Program Room, but all other library services will be unavailable.

Community Reading of the Declaration of Independence with Anne B. Wagner

People of all ages are invited to participate in the eigth annual reading of the Declaration of Independence on the grounds of Portsmouth Free Public Library. Each person who wishes may read a marked section of our nation’s founding document and we will finish in unison. Families are welcome and children who can read and recite are encouraged to take part. Copies will be available or you may bring your own. In case of rain, we will meet inside the library’s program room.
